Mayank Chakraborty wins National Under 11 Chess Championship 2019

Upcoming junior chess player Mayank Chakraborty of Assam, (a student of South Point School Guwahati) clinched the National Under 11 Chess Championship 2019 that concluded at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi today. He has become the only player from Assam to win the National Under 11 Chess Championship in the history of Assam Chess and the second National Champion ever produced from Assam in Chess. Mayank scored 9.5 points in 11 rounds and finished clear champion with a half point margin Ilamparthi A R of Tamil nadu and Kshatriya Nitin Vekhande of Maharshtra who finished second and third respectively.

Also Arshiya Das of Tripura who participated in the Girls category of the tournament, scored 8.5 points and secured 3rd position.
A total of 170 players in Girls category and 268 players in the Open category participated in this official chess championship organised by All India Chess Federation from 15th to 23rd November 2019.
Both Mayank Chakraborty and Arshiya Das have hence qualified for the Asian and World Under 12 Championship 2020.
